Enrolment under Proposed Beneficiary Criteria
After extensive deliberation and consultation with their constituents over the past several years, the Algonquin Negotiation Representatives approved by Special Resolution the Proposed Beneficiary Criteria. Accordingly, Stage 1 of the enrolment process under that Criteria commenced in April 2020.
Completed Enrolment Application Form – Proposed Beneficiary Criteria – April 2020 and the necessary supporting documentation for Stage 1 of the enrolment process were accepted until November 16, 2020.
All Members of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation are automatically included as Beneficiaries.

Those individuals who met the Proposed Beneficiary Criteria under Stage 1 are now enrolled. Enrolment was based on our assessment of the genealogical and historical information supplied by individuals and information on file in the Algonquins of Ontario Enrolment Office.
These individuals have been placed on the Voters List and they will be eligible to vote in the 2021 Algonquin Negotiation Representative (ANR) Election in their community.
Individuals, who are enrolled under the Proposed Beneficiary Criteria in Stage 1 of the Enrolment process, will still be subject to potential protests against either their ancestor or their application as part of Stage 2 of the Enrolment Process. Stage 2 will begin at a date yet to be determined following the 2021 ANR Election.
The Special Resolution of January 22, 2020 contemplated there being a further process for enrolment involving the establishment of both an enrolment board, with the power to receive new applications, consider additional and alternative evidence relevant to the enrolment of Applicants, and an appeal board to address appeals and protests arising from enrolment decisions.

If there is no successful protest affecting an individual’s enrolment at that time, they will be eligible to vote on the ratification of the final treaty that is currently under negotiation between the Governments of Canada, Ontario and the Algonquins of Ontario. These individuals will also become a Beneficiary of that treaty once it is ratified.
